Dark green paint can drastically change the look of your space and if you are considering this as an option for yourself, this is a stunning color choice, you just need to know which paint to choose!
I am in the middle of the Durham Project (my sister’s half-bath renovation), and for this small bathroom remodel, she wanted to go full-on dark, bold, and moody. More to come on this project so stay tuned!
I spent ~hours~ researching the best dark green paint colors that still offered a little bit of warmth in a small space and I think I found the prettiest ones around. I decided to keep the list strictly green paint colors from Sherwin Williams, that way they can be purchased easily from Lowe’s.
Here are the best green paint colors to paint a small bathroom or any room you want to add that fun touch of drama and character that only dark green can bring!
Warm, Earthy Greens
Every single one of these green paint colors has either a brown or yellowish undertone, making them the perfect “warm green”. These greens feel cozy and organic and are perfect if you want a more “earthy” feel to your space!
Soft, Muted Greens
There is something so soothing about a “muted” sage green paint covering your walls. And if you love this as much as I do, these paint selections are perfect for you! These tones are cooler, with gray or soft blue undertones which make them feel subtle and almost calming.
Rock Garden SW 6196 is definitely the darkest out of this bunch but since it is “tinged slightly with blue-gray undertones”, I’ve decided to keep it on this list.
Deep, Rich Greens
These greens are the deepest and most intense out of all the greens on this list. They tend to have a forest or teal undertone and appear pretty dark on your green-painted walls. Most of these greens appear in the “Historic” collection at Sherwin Williams which means that they are classic and will stand the test of time.
- Andiron – SW 6174
- Rookwood Dark Green – SW 2816 (Historic Color)
- Jasper – SW 6216
- Roycroft Bottle Green – SW 2847 (Historic Color)
- Dard Hunter Green – SW 0041 (Historic Color)
Vibrant, True Greens
If you want a more traditional green, any paint on this list will be perfect! These colors are bold with more of a traditional green undertone and will stand out beautifully on your walls!
The Three Green Color Samples We Considered
If you take any advice away from this post, it’s this – get at least 2-3 paint samples for your space! Select your top color choices through online resources, in-store color swatches, or recommendations from your favorite projects you’ve seen. Then see how these look in YOUR space.
Each space is unique and has its own architecture and lighting, so you will want to make sure you absolutely LOVE your color choice in your home before buying an entire gallon for your project.
The three green paint color swatches we considered for our project were Ripe Olive – SW 6209, Jasper – SW 6216, and Basil – SW 6194. Ripe Olive was our ultimate choice! We ended up falling in love with it and choosing it for our bathroom design! 😍
Ripe Olive
Ripe Olive – SW 6209 falls under the “warm, earthy” green category because of its slightly warm undertone. Although on Sherwin Williams’s site, it does say it has “blue-gray undertones” but that’s why reference pictures & samples are SO important!
When I was designing the Durham bathroom project, I knew that we were working with a small space, and with the bathroom painted ceiling, the room still needed to feel warm and cozy. Ripe Olive accomplished just that!
I truly love this color and I would recommend it if you want to go bold, dark, and moody for your own project.
Basil
Out of all the sage green paint colors, Basil – SW 6194 was by far the most beautiful! I knew that I would love this color in person but I also was afraid that it might not be as dark as I was hoping for the project that I was working on.
However, I will keep this color in mind for a future project!
Basil is warm, and relaxing, and would be perfect for a small nook, a kitchen island, or hallway doors. However, I may be hesitant to paint an entire room this color due to its very particular look.
I was worried that I might get a little tired of this color after a while which is why we swayed away from it in the first place.
Jasper
Out of the three green paint samples, Jasper – SW 6216 was the darkest option which is ultimately why we ended up not selecting this choice.
However, I truly love this color. It is stunning in person and would be very beautiful on kitchen cabinets or in a space where you want to go very dark, bold, or almost black!
It has a very “dark academia” vibe to it which is why I was drawn to it in the first place. I love this color and would keep it in mind for a future project!
Why stick with neutral paint colors when you can have beautiful sage green paint or dark green paint adorn your home? I hope you feel extremely inspired by these stunning options!
And if you do end up choosing one of these colors from this list of best paint colors, please let me know! I would LOVE to hear/see how it turns out!
