Sage green paint is absolutely stunning and looks good in nearly every room of your house. Bathroom? Gorgeous. Dining room? Say Less. Bedroom? Calm, Peaceful, 10/10. Honestly, it might just be the most versatile color around.
But, how do you know WHICH sage green color to go with? With so many beautiful sage green paint options out there, I was in that same predicament!
I spent ~hours~ researching sage green paint colors that were soft, had a vintage feel to them, and would look good for years to come. And may I just say I think I found the prettiest ones around?! I decided to keep the list strictly sage green paint colors from Sherwin-Williams, so that they can easily be purchased from Lowe’s.
Here is the best sage green paint if you want that truly soft and timeless feel!

Subtle, Muted Greens

If you are looking for a soft and subtle sage green, these “muted” sage green options are going to be your favorites! To me, these have the most vintage feel to them.
Filmy Green SW 6190 is so stunning in person. I ended up getting a sample of this, and I absolutely fell in love. It is the definition of soft, subtle, and timeless. The only reason I didn’t go with this one is that it didn’t quite match my wallpaper. However, I will keep it in mind for another project in the future!
Liveable Green SW 6176 is definitely the darkest of the “muted” sage green paint options. It was my second choice for my piano room makeover! It has a slight yellow undertone, but the green is very “subtle”, which is why I added it to this section.
- Opaline – SW 6189
- Filmy Green – SW 6190
- Spinach White – SW 6434
- Sagey – SW 6175
- Liveable Green – SW 6176
- Ancient Marble – SW 6162
Warm Sage Greens

Every single one of these sage green paint colors has a slightly yellowish undertone, making them the perfect “warm sage green”. These greens are going to feel warm, cozy, and have more of an “earthy” feel to them. They would be perfect if you are already using a lot of warm woods or organic elements in your space!
Contented SW 6191 is not too dark and not too light; it might just be the perfect sage green color. This is ultimately the color we decided to go with for our upcoming piano room makeover because it is beautiful. This color stood out among the rest and was the perfect mix of blueish green while still leaning into the “warm” sage green category. I absolutely ADORE this color, and I know you will too!
- Soft Sage – SW 9647
- Softened Green – SW 6177
- Contented – SW 6191
- Cascade Green – SW 0066
- Clary Sage – SW 6178
- Frosted Fern – SW 9648
Cool Sages

These sage greens are cool, just like the name suggests, because each one has a slight blueish undertone. They would be perfect for someone who is looking for a sage green but also loves the feel of a light blue paint. These would be perfect for more of a coastal, airy design.
Sea Salt SW 6204 falls under this “cool” sage green category because it very clearly has a blue undertone. This paint is vastly popular for such a good reason. It is the perfect shade of soft blueish/green. It is gorgeous in person!
Just a note: I would definitely get a sample of this shade to make sure you love it! There is a slight possibility that you might think it has a “teal” undertone, and that might not be what you are looking for if you want a true sage green paint color.
Grayed Greens

This is for anyone who loves the look of sage green paint but might not want to fully commit to a super saturated color. The “grayed” greens have a slight grey undertone, which makes the sage green just a little softer. This might be good for someone who is planning on painting a large room, like a bedroom or living room!
The Four Sage Green Paint Samples We Considered
The main thing to remember about all paint, not just sage green paint, is to ALWAYS get the samples. It’s my #1 tip that I always give to anyone who is debating between a couple of different colors.
You need to see how the paint will look in your space, not just in the store or through a photo of your favorite project you have seen on social media. Seeing the paint in YOUR space with your lighting will make all the difference. It will also make your decision feel a whole lot easier.
With that being said, the four paint color swatches we considered for this piano room makeover were: Contented – SW 6191, Sea Salt – SW 6204, Filmy Green – SW 6190, Liveable Green – SW 6176. Contented was our ultimate choice because it matched our wallpaper so perfectly.😍 We almost couldn’t NOT pick it, haha.
Contented
Contented SW 6191 falls under the “warm sage greens” because it has more of a warm undertone than the other green samples.
On Sherwin-Williams’ site, they describe this color as a “bewitchingly subtle green” and “complex blue gray undertones” because it is truly SUCH a unique color. It is both warm and cool at the same time.
It has that soft and subtle vibe of sage green but has a bit of depth to it, making it just a tad bit darker than the rest of the other options.
This color is truly perfect, there is no other way to say it!
Sea Salt
Sea Salt SW 6204 is the only sample that we got that fell under the “cool” category on this list, and that is because it has a blue undertone.
In this space, I was debating between a light blue and light green paint, so this Sea Salt color was a perfect option. It is a blend of blue-ish, sagey soft green, and it is genuinely so pretty.
I have seen this color used in bathroom projects, living rooms, and bedrooms because it has almost a “calming” effect to it.
Filmy Green
Filmy Green SW 6190 falls under the “subtle, muted greens” section of this post because it is softer than Contented and some of the others on this list.
Filmy Green was our second choice for this project! The only reason we did not go with this color is that when we painted the samples on the wall, this paint had a tendency to look slightly different in different lighting.
That is why it is SO important to always get the samples and test them in your room on multiple walls!
Please note that Filmy Green has a light reflectance value of 64.57. This value indicates the percentage of light that color reflects. The higher LRV means that the color will reflect more light, making a room appear brighter! The LRV scale is 0-100.
Liveable Green
Liveable Green SW 6176 falls under the “subtle, muted greens” category because it is not too dark and not too light. It is the perfect “soft” sage green.
This color is gorgeous and probably the most “sagey” out of all the samples we looked at! Truly, the only reason this color did not work for our space is that it was too warm for our project.
This color has a yellowish undertone and sometimes leans almost minty in some lighting. It is truly such a beautiful color!
I will definitely be keeping this color in mind for another future project!
