Board and Batten Wall Spacing Calculator
The reason you are here: the BEST board and batten wall spacing calculator!
Be sure to click/hover over the tips on the calculator if you need any clarification on what to put in each field.
It’s also important to note that this calculator assumes you are using 8ft boards. This shouldn’t be an issue, since the standard length for these boards is 8ft in most hardware stores (Home Depot and Lowe’s).
Board and batten spacing is extremely important if you’re completing a DIY board and batten wall. Even if you’re a couple of inches off, it will totally change that beautiful look you were going for. But have no fear, this calculator will get you exactly where you need to be!
Spacing Formula
If you have a more complicated design or simply want to do the math yourself, use this spacing formula instead!
(Wall width – total width of boards) ÷ by the total number of desired spaces = spacing needed between each board.
Keep in mind, if you are doing the calculation yourself, be sure to account for the fact that MDF board width is usually a half inch smaller than what it says on the label.
This will get your board and batten layout perfect each time!

Hi!! This calculator was amazing to calculate the spacing for us. The math wasn’t mathin’ in my brain without it. Haha. I did want to ask you what kind of board you used so I know what to look for in home depot. TIA!

I was able to use your calculator on our first project when it was on your pin. We are wanting to do another room and now that the calculator is on a separate page, I can no longer enter the inches for width and height. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank you in advance

This is amazing! Does the length between board measure to the EDGE of the board or to the CENTER of the board? Just want to make sure I account for the 3(ish) inch width of the board.
Thanks!!!
