Some design challenges might seem impossible – like finding a cute space to create a bourbon bar in a small apartment. But it can be done, especially if you get a little creative!

If you know the struggle of having BIG design dreams but not having unlimited space to do it, I feel you. Even though it may not be obvious at first, decorating in unexpected spaces can have a huge impact.

One option to decorate with limited space is above the fridge.

And while I was designing my brother’s above-the-fridge bourbon bar, I realized just how much potential this often-overlooked spot has.

In this post, I’ll list out 4 adorable ways to decorate above your fridge!

1. Transform your alcohol into a mini bar

Starting with my absolute favorite idea – create a mini bar above your fridge. If you are already displaying your favorite bottles of alcohol on top of the fridge, this idea is for you.

Instead of placing bottles on your fridge by themselves, start by arranging them intentionally on a tray. This will automatically elevate this space!

Add in framed bar art, an adorable accent light, a wooden board for height, your favorite bar tools, and some nice bourbon glasses and you just made yourself the CUTEST bourbon bar.

I mean, just take a look at this before and after! It’s wild! I absolutely love how this mini bar turned out and it was super easy to do.

    2. Decorate with greenery & plants

This second fridge decor idea is a plant lover’s dream!

Cutting board | Square cutting board | Frame | Art print | Snake plant | Brass planter | Pathos plant | String of pearls plant

Including fresh plants in a small space can brighten up any room. This design includes a variety of house plants and other organic elements, like wood cutting boards, to complete this look!

When in doubt, it’s always a good idea to include art in your design. And this floral print fits perfectly.

    3. Make a cookbook nook above your fridge

How adorable is this third option? If you are someone who loves cooking and collecting cookbooks, creating a cozy cookbook nook is a must!

Scalloped tray | Ceramic vase | Basil plant | Recipe box | Terracotta pot | “Pastry Love” | “Simple Cake” | “Joyous Detox” | “Magnolia Table” | “Cooking At Home” | “It’s All Good” | “Dinner in French” | “Half Baked Harvest”

By arranging your cookbooks on a scalloped tray with a vase as a bookend, you are truly maximizing this little space.

For this idea, you can also add your favorite kitchen herb like basil into a pot and pair it with a colorful art print. I’m obsessed with this option and might just have to recreate this look in my small kitchen.

    4. Add extra storage as fridge decor

You can never have enough storage, especially in a small kitchen.

Rattan cube storage | 36″ Shelf | Glass storage jars

By adding a floating shelf and 3-4 storage bins on top of your fridge, you are making this small space feel intentional.

This option is great if you need to store lots of items in your kitchen but don’t want everything on display. You can display the items that you want while keeping your fridge decor organized.

That’s why I’m obsessed with these adorable glass jars to store extra ingredients. Too cute!
