Owning cozy blankets is absolutely essential to being a homeowner. But when you’re not using them, where do they go?
Blanket storage is important to have in your home – you don’t want your home to constantly look like one big blanket fort (but maybe you do because that doesn’t sound half bad 😜).
There are many different ways to incorporate blanket storage into every room of your home. Whether your room is small or large, there’s something in here for everyone!
In this post, I’ll list 12 super cute ways how to store blankets in your room. I don’t know about you, but I’m blanket obsessed – so I have a million blankets in my house for me and my guests. So I really value some good blanket storage!
1. Blanket Basket
This one is a classic blanket storage idea that I personally use in my family room.
It’s actually an extremely easy way to add some decor to a room as well. Just find an adorable basket, roll your blankets, and place them inside.
Blanket baskets are the best option when you don’t have a closet to store blankets in. I personally utilize the wire basket look in my guest bedroom, but have a seagrass basket for storing blankets in the living room.
Where to buy blanket baskets? My all-time fav place to buy blanket storage baskets is HomeGoods. It can be a hit or a miss, but this is where you find nice water hyacinth and seagrass baskets.
You can also buy other storage baskets on Amazon that are just as cute, and depending on your style, you might just fall in love with one. I’ve got an entire post on the best storage baskets from Amazon. Check out the related post below!

2. Blanket Trunk
If you have some space to work with and wondering how to store blankets, you should definitely consider a blanket trunk.
This is an excellent option for those who have A LOT of blankets. I’m in that category and would probably benefit from one of these haha. It’s also a great option when looking at how to store large blankets.
3. Ottoman Blanket Storage
When you only have a light blanket or two that you want to hide away, an ottoman with storage is one of the best ways to store blankets!
The great thing about using an ottoman for storing blankets is that it’s dual-purpose. You can prop your feet up on it, and guests would never even know! But then when you want a blanket, just remove the lid and you’ve got your favorite blanket right there.
4. Storage Bench
With a similar function to the storage ottoman, a storage bench gives you the opportunity to add a cozy accent to your room.
A storage bench is the perfect functional option for those that may need extra seating here and there. But when you need them, just open up the bench and there are all of your blankets!
I really love the look of this particular storage bench. What better way to store blankets in the living room?
5. Blanket Hangers
Looking to store extra blankets out of sight and out of mind? Take these blanket hangers for a spin!
Simply fold your blanket over the hanger, and easily store it in the closet. Even if you have limited space in your closet, these can hang next to coats or any other hanging clothes!
6. Console Table Blanket Storage
Add a sideboard, console table, or other type of cabinet to your room that is dedicated to your blankets!
I LOVE the Nathan James brand for this type of furniture. It’s build-it-yourself (kind of like IKEA), but it doesn’t take long at all. The shelves in my husband’s home office are from this brand, and they’re such good quality for the price!
In addition to console tables in the living room, if your entryway is nearby and you have a console table that has some storage space, you can store your blankets in there!

7. Side Table/Nightstand Blanket Storage
You may already have side tables that are perfect for storing blankets, you might just need to shuffle some things around.
But if not, I have these easy-to-assemble nightstands in my guest bedroom. And the fact that you get two for that price? I was sold immediately.
Utilize your side table and nightstand drawers and cabinets for storing blankets! It’s a simple place that’s easily overlooked, but so convenient when you need a blanket and don’t want to get up from the couch or out of bed. Been there, done that! 😊

8. Blanket Ladder
For the farmhouse decor lover, the blanket ladder is the perfect addition to any room when thinking of how to store blankets.
Plus, just like the blanket basket, it’s one of the best ways to keep your blankets on display and easily accessible for you and your guests. There are SO many cute options out there. Just lean it against your wall, and just like that you’ve got yourself cute blanket storage!
9. Blanket Storage Bag
When you want a little bit more of a long-term storage solution for storing blankets, you must check out these bags. Ideally, you’ll have closet space, or have some space under the bed for these bags.
You can fold these bags down to be super thin when not in use, so they virtually take up no space at all. Check out the reviews on these things!
How do you store blankets without them smelling? These bags are perfect for that because they have 3 layers of fabric, making them dust-proof. Another hack I like to do is throw in a dryer sheet or two when I’m storing blankets for the long haul.
10. Laundry Hamper
This idea is pretty similar to the blanket basket idea for how to store blankets. However, you can take any laundry hamper and repurpose it as blanket storage. Talk about getting creative with your blanket storage!
They’re perfect because they’re tall and can fit a lot of blankets.
11. Coffee Table Storage
If you’re in the market for a new coffee table, think about buying one that can store your extra blankets.
This particular one made by Sauder is super cute! I’ve had office furniture from Sauder, and although it’s a DIY kind of desk as you’ll be the one building it, the quality is high up there.
I really like this coffee table because it has visible storage on one side, drawer storage on the other side for extra blankets, and the top is really pretty for a living room!
12. Log Rack
Are you looking for creative ways to store blankets in the living room? I bet you didn’t think a log rack could double as a blanket rack!
Especially if your blankets are stored in your living room, you can roll up each one (just like a log) and put them in the rack up by the fireplace. What a cute, creative way for how to store blankets!
13. Throw Over the Couch
And of course, for the lone blanket, you can fold your blanket over the couch and have it act as your throw blanket! I recommend only doing this with one blanket.
Just like a throw blanket! But it’s a cute, natural, and design-worthy look that will make your blanket placement look purposeful.
