Today’s topic is…toilet paper! With so many different small bathroom layouts out there, you may find yourself asking where do you put a toilet paper holder in a small bathroom.
I happen to be a self-proclaimed expert in finding the best toilet paper holder location because I have 4 small bathrooms myself!
Small bathrooms already lack space, so sometimes a little bit of creativity is required when it comes to toilet paper placement in the bathroom. There’s toilet paper placement, then there’s toilet paper placement that looks good!
Where to put your toilet paper holder in a small bathroom?
So, what is the best place for a toilet paper holder in a small bathroom? There are three main options you can choose from that are key for saving space!
1. Toilet Paper Holder Stand
In my opinion, the best place for a toilet paper holder and toilet paper storage in a small bathroom is the toilet paper holder stand. I use this option in two of my small bathrooms because you get the toilet paper holder and the storage all in one.
The best place for a toilet paper holder stand is in the corner directly across from your toilet. With small bathrooms, this should be an arm’s length or less of a reach from the toilet.
They are slim enough to fit in the corner of your bathroom directly across from your toilet without being bothersome. Plus, they are able to hold 2-4 rolls, so you always have the next roll on deck. Toilet paper holder stands will truly just blend into the room.
2. Wall Mounted Toilet Paper Holder + TP Storage Basket Combo
Although this is listed as #2, it’s just as good as #1. I may be biased since I utilize this method in my other two bathrooms, but it looks SO nice!
A wall-mounted toilet paper holder combined with a TP storage basket on the back of the toilet is the ultimate space-saving move, making this perfect for small bathrooms.

Wall-Mounted Toilet Paper Holder
The wall-mounted toilet paper holder should be installed on the wall to the left or right of the toilet. In some cases, your best bet may be installing it onto the side of your vanity. However, installing it on the vanity should be a last resort because you don’t want to drill holes in it if you don’t have to.
But how high should a toilet paper holder be on the wall, and how far in front of the toilet?
Toilet Paper Holder Height: 26” from floor
Toilet Paper Holder Distance from Front of Toilet: 10”-12”
When I remodeled my guest bathroom, I did a lot of research to find a good quality wall-mounted toilet paper holder that was cheap. You can check my wall-mounted TP holder out on Amazon. I’d 100% purchase it again because it was an easy install, and it looks super nice! Not only do I love the look, but I also LOVE the fact that you don’t need to mess with the spring mechanism that’s on so many toilet paper holders.
You simply slide it on and slide it off. This went perfectly with my organic modern bathroom remodel.
Toilet Paper Storage Basket
For the TP storage basket, all you need is a cute basket that fits toilet paper and fits on the back of your toilet (so be sure to measure). This is where you can get really cute and add some style to your toilet (yes you can get cute with TP storage lol).

There are plenty of options out there to fit your style and bathroom! My baskets are no longer available, but here is a great option! Just search “toilet tank storage basket” on Amazon.
3. Toilet Mounted TP Holder
Yes, you read that right – toilet mounted.
A toilet-mounted toilet paper holder hooks or mounts onto the toilet tank. There are many different variations out there – some that hold one roll, some two rolls, and there is even toilet paper storage that can be mounted on the side of the tank.
Just as in option #2, you can pair this with a toilet paper storage basket on the back of the toilet.
If you are absolutely out of space in your small bathroom, I would choose this option. Or if you are set on finding the best space-saving toilet paper holder solution, it doesn’t get much more space-saving than this. However, if you have the ability and room to go with the first two options, I would probably pick one of those instead.
After looking through the reviews for several of these types of products, people really seem to love them! However, I haven’t personally had experience with the toilet-mounted solution, and I don’t think I would go with this option myself.
My bathrooms are small, but I have found a way to make options #1 and #2 work, which I definitely prefer over the toilet-mounted solution. And speaking from a design perspective as well, I just think #1 and #2 look better.
But, this just goes to show that it’s totally up to the individual TP user! Ultimately, you have to do what’s best for you! 😊

When it comes to the placement of the toilet paper holder in your bathroom, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. You cannot go wrong with any of these options!
